Look for a book called Head First with XHTML and CSS in your local book store. I and several of my colleagues used it to get on our feet. Fabulous book.
I actually recommend Build Your Own Web Site the Right Way with HTML and CSS by Ian Lloyd, if you're starting out with HTML and CSS or coming from a table layout background. If you're fairly comfortable with HTML, then you may want to read HTML Utopia: Designing Without Tables Using CSS, 2nd Edition by Rachel Andrew and Dan Shafer. I also suggest you read Designing With Web Standards, 2nd Edition by Jeffrey Zeldman and Don't Make Me Think! A Common Sense Approach to Web Usability by Steve Krug (this one's a very fast read).
You don't need to. Besides, I've personally found out that courses tend to literally teach you bad habits anyway. You'll be better off reading those books and making your own sites than learning a course. I know it sounds harsh, and can be intimidating, but there's a HUGE community you can tap into if you ever feel stuck and need help with something.
you cant open the ebooks, can you? if not, download Acrobat Reader. not Acrobat, the Reader only. You dont need Acrobat for reading purpose
