Expert is a subjective term, but in England about £40,000 ($80,000) a year.

oohhh. great question...I have been in that area of the marketing world for about 10 years now. In my experience - as far as salary - it's like an auto tech (unfortunatley) - based upon experience. Unless of course you've got all the IT degrees and can start out working for one of the fortune 500's. Otherwise you are looking at a starting of around US 32-35K I think. Competition is really tough these days and you might be able to make a better way on the net with it's growth than working for a company...if of course you spend the time to market correctly and can make a name for yourself. I'm currently trying my hand at it. PM if you need ideas! I may have a few...or maybe you already know them...not sure your circumstances! Drop me a line and we can chat it out :)

I agree with zander, generally speaking... "graphics/multimedia expert" covers A LOT of territory, and the salaries vary proportionately. I can say from my experience in the printing industry for the last 10 years, I've gone from earning $25k/yr at a medium sized commercial printer to more than double that working for a small marketing/design firm 5 years later. I have a degree from a very well-known art school, so that helps, but most of the important stuff I know, I learned on the job. And I'd imagine that in the more digital world of web/multimedia design & programming, the salaries vary a lot too, based on experience, who you work for, who you know, your skill level, etc.

So, basically what I'm saying is, there's SO many variables involved, it's a really difficult question to answer! LOL

I usually work as a freelance, and mostly,in my experience,it has been between a range of 20-60$/hour.But you know,it depends a lot,you should take consideration of other factors as well.

    Have a nice day,;)

    Hi me4you,

I know you only asked about $$$ but I'm guessing that you are only just starting out so I thought you may appreciate a few tips.

    Some things are pretty certain:
    1. You will learn far more, and more quickly in the REAL WORLD than at college.
    2. Initially you would probably be better off working for someone else until you get at least some EXPERIENCE. You will have someone to LEARN from and to lean on and take the PRESSURE off you. You will also learn what to charge etc.
    3. You WILL make mistakes from time to time.
    4. Unless you are very exceptional you will NOT earn a fortune in your first couple of years.
    5. Once you are freelance you will have the POTENTIAL to earn far more than when you were employed.
    6. Working for yourself is a RISK - you won't get paid on the same day every month.
    7. As a freelancer, per hour you will EVENTUALLY be able to earn anything from $0 to maybe $100 per hour. Sometimes a job will take a lot LESS time than you had quoted for - great. Other times you may do a job 'as a favour' and get little or NO financial reward.
    8. ALWAYS let people see your enthusiasm and professionalism.
    9. Be PREPARED to take on lesser paid work if you don't have much else on at the time, just to keep the pennies/cents coming in.
    10. You MUST be committed and WILLING to learn.

These things said, be sure that it's the right career for you. You should enjoy it - if it feels like hard work then perhaps you should be doing something else.
Also (sometimes very difficult) don't let people take advantage of you. There are unfortunately some people out there who will have you running around all over the place and never have any intention of paying you. As you get more experience you will find them easier to spot.

I hope that helps and good luck.

As for Turpentine's response "anywhere from $40k-120k", I'd say it could be even broader... I've seen graphic designers make as low as $35,000 and as high as $150,000. The top notch people usually work for famous agencies/studios for major brand names. The bottom end do stuff like coupons. Go figure.

Mmmm, I do about 25 k per year working from my country to the rest of the world (mostly USA), working 6 hs per day as a freelancer. It took me some hard work though and many sleepless nights to get to this position :)

you aren't going to make any money on here competing with people who do logos and what not for $5 though you may end up with someone will to pay a decent price every now and then but with all the people on here doing okay work for nearly nothing, meh... good luck. as far as how much one makes is determined on a lot of factors. who they work for, who they know, how long they have been doing it, what it is exactly that they do, how good they are at what they do among other things.
