Can adsense size be edited manually?

I wanted to place adsense in my blog unfortunately, i found out that the ads size that will be suitable for the section is not among google ads format so i decided to edit it manually.

    I changed 300x250 to 250x250.

Can this affect my earning or can i be penalize for altering the ads size?

Just choose a custom size when you create the ad unit:
