Can a Wordpress theme break my adsense?

I know there are several reasons why Google doesn't give someone credit for clicks on Adsense. And I've had some people clicking my ads trying to get me banned. MOST of that happened a year ago.

I still see a lot of what look like legit clicks. From different people at different times that AdSense does not give me credit for. I see them as exit links using statcounter

I also had a LOT of trouble passing my AdSense data to my GA stats. Finally found a plug that works for me.

It has me wondering if something on my theme could be breaking it. The theme developer is not an AdSense fan himself so it wouldn't be an issue for him.

    thoughts?

My thoughts are that this part is impossible: "I still see a lot of what look like legit clicks. From different people at different times that AdSense does not give me credit for. I see them as exit links using statcounter"
The only clicks that count are those counted and displayed by adsense, period.

It's as simple as that, no other "adsense counter" counts!

That they didn't count is obvious. Why they didn't count is the question! That day I saw 12 clicks and only 1 of them is counted by adsense, something isn't right. They were spread over the day, they were not clicks on Link Units, they were clicks by different people.

A theme could break adsense. I doubt that is what is happening with mine but no doubt a theme could.

I had people clicking on my ads a year ago in an attempt to get me banned. My earnings have never been as good sense.

Do you have any thing helpful?

I am not sure if a theme can break AdSense. The way I understand the AdSense software analyses clicks goes something like this: IP address ---> seconds/minutes a visitor stayed on the page after the click ----> was any further action taken? ----> the click was: good quality/poor quality

If the same visitor, even throughout the day, comes to your site and clicks on the ads, chances are those clicks are not going to be counted. I personally believe only unique quality clicks are counted in any 24 hour period. But I am just guessing.

I wasn't saying they didn't count! Quite the contrary!
I said that only AdSense counting counts. Do you understand? That means that any other "tool" you use to count clicks on adsense ads don't mean anything at all.

The only place to look at how many valid clicks you got on your adsense blocks IS adsense admin panel, there is no other place.

I hope I made my position clearer.

I agree with everything you say. When I see 12 click spread out over the day and I get credit for 1 though, something not right. These were clicks that came in from search engines so not my friends trying to help me out.

I'm not new to Adsense, I've had an account for about five years.

What could break them is bad XHTML in a plugin, I THINK. I wouldn't swear to that.

I did a search today for Wordpress Themes and the guy that makes my theme came in third in the results. He has to know what he's doing to pull that off.

Perhaps I just had a bad day, I don't see that as much as I use too. Back when I had my Xfriends trying to get me banned (fight over a girl) I saw a lot of it.

On a related subject, I'm so tired of living in constant fear I will get my account banned. Starting to move away from Adsense but I really don't want to loose my account. That's another subject, I'm rambling.... Nothing new.

    Thanks for the input.

Thank Senserely, I understood you the first time. Basically you were retelling me the links didn't count. I know they didn't count, that's why I asked the question. To try to figure out why I was having horrible results.

I do appreciate the attempt to help and your time.

    On a related topic.

I have an aweber mailing list. I wonder if it would be a good idea or a bad idea to email them and tell them not to click on ads to "help me." I do that with family and friends but have never done it with a wider group. I know I can't refer to it at all on my site. I also don't want to discourage people from clicking. I have seem people trying to help me though. Not often, but I see it.

I see the source of the traffic from an email (my mailing list) and then I see four or five clicks on ads. Again, don't see it often but enough to trouble me.

Sickthing, you can get away with it for so long even with just family and friends, but on a mailing list you have about 90% of your incitation to click being reported and adsense acting on it by disabling your account.
Your best bet is on focusing on ways to increase your overall number of ad impressions & clicks. If that means building a brand new site on a topic you believe will attract high amounts of traffic, then let's do it.
