I have a situation that I have never come across before. Basically I have a keyword that does very well for us. We are number one for it in all 3 major engines and it accurately describes one of our products. (Thats thrown in to show relevancy) About 3 months ago a totally unrelated movie by the same name came out and our once great CTR plummeted within 1 day and the keyword was disabled. I just deleted it and rode out the storm (it wouldn't reenable). After the movie bombed and interest dwindled I tried to re-enter the word. Of course it immediately went to disabled. I then just used different capitalization and it worked a charm for the last couple of months. Suddenly last week there are no impressions for that word (there were several thousand a day with a high conversion rate), but it still shows green and active. Has something changed in AdWords? I originally emailed Google to plead my case about the movie and to look at my CTR before that but they gave canned responses that showed they weren't reading the mail. Is there anything else I should try? Cheers
You can ring your account manager and speak to them in person. That's what we do. Especially when you invest thousands of pounds you have the right to an immediately, tailored response IMO. Ring Ireland (I think that's where they're based) and get them to look into it.
I actually went back in forth with them originally but then dropped it once the changing the capitalization worked. I almost don't want to bring attention to it because it still works for my campaigns in every other country, just not the UK anymore. I was more curious about the fact that is shows enabled but obviously isnt. If I don't get any other repsonse in this thread, I will resort to calling them after a few days.
Actually for anyone following this thread. I tried the Capitalization trick again with a completely different combination and it worked. (Got 4 orders in the last 5 minutes). I will post back if it stays active for more than a few hours. I guess maybe sometimes its not explainable, just one of those things.
I have a friend who has spent a lot of money on Adwords (360k) in four years. A couple of weeks ago his top keyword was disabled and he can't get it back, lots of emails, phone calls, all with no result. It's not a good way to run a business
