Dear friends..we all know that 'E-commerce or Electronic commerce' is the term used for business which is conducted online. Using an e-commerce website, firms are able to promote their goods and services on a global level. But all these websites have to follow a set of established rules and regulations, which are popularly referred to as 'Cyber Laws'. Cyber Laws are actually a collection of stringent rules and regulations that govern business operations online. I feel that a website vendor who develops and designs your website should also have a rough idea about these cyber laws! It is not necessary that a website vendor may have specific and complete knowledge about all cyber laws that exist in a country but he should have a rough estimate, which is enough to assist a website owner. Am I right in redefining this role of a website vendor? Or is there any other aspect that concerns cyber laws? As a website owner who do you depend on to make sure you adhere to all the necessary Cyber laws of the country? Awaiting your views and opinion on the same... Cheers Maneet Puri
It is my belief that a web site developer should have a general knowledge of Internet law so that what he provides is usable by his customer. A good analogy would be expecting a car you bought in the U.S. to comply with all EPA regulations (i.e. catalytic converters.) However, a web site developer should not accept liability by providing a terms of service or privacy policy. These are legal documents and providing them would not only create liability for the developer down the road, but would also be the felony of practicing law without a license. In the end, it is up to each individual who has a site devoted to e-commerce to run their business in accordance with all applicable laws. I always suggest any business owner to get good professional accounting and legal advice. A little money spent upfront can save you big money in the future.
