On a VPS host would I be able to run executable (.EXE) files and fully control the app? Just for an example: If I wanted to install a game (maplestory.com) on the virtual machine and be able to fully control the game remotely. Would this possible on a VPS hosting?
Assuming it's a Windows VPS, yes. You can either use readily available macro tools, or write your own (in something like Visual Basic). Jay
For win.vps, you must have an access to the server via RDP, you should be able to install your desired app. There's no reason for your webhost provider to say that they can't give you an access to it.
Actually, it depends on a few factors. One, is this a 3D game requiring DirectX? If so, 3D games don't work through RDP, the game won't start. I've tried it, but 3D applications won't work through RDP. The second thing is (this might not apply, but is good information for the future) you can't always install programs that require driver changes. For example, if you want to install Vmware Server in a VPS, it might not work. I've tried it on Virtuozzo and it doesn't work. Some VPS environments can't tolerate driver changes and other things.
No, I do not need DirectX. I was just using a game as an example to see if I can control apps the same way. So, if an app that does not require driver changes, I can fully control it as I see it on my own monitor? I just need to monitor it to make sure there are no errors and fix it when there is. Does anyone know a decent VPS host? I don't think there is any unlimited bandwidth right?
If you're looking to hook an application, read the windows/titles or prompts, it could get complicated. Is that what you're trying to do? There is such thing as unmetered bandwidth (10Mbps is common), but it's not cheap if you want premium carriers. Jay
Here the best way to explain what i want to do. Can I install and run a software like http://GotoMyPC.com on a VPS?
Yeah you can, or you could use RDP to get to your server, and then when you get in, you can RDP to another computer from within the VPS. Like Jay, I have a few questions too as to why you would want it. Thanks!
