Can a vector image purchased from a stock photo site be edited and used as a logo?

Firstly can they be edited if there is text etc within the vector image from a stock photo site? Can the colors be changed?

If the above can be done im guessing that they are sold to be turned into what you want but i would check the terms of use on the stock photo site i guess.

I will be getting a logo done soon and at first was struggling as to how it would be designed then i thought of a keyword related to the domain, searched for this on a stock photo site and realise that the image would be ideal as a logo design for the site.

    The short answer is no.

On the shutterstock.com site, here's what it reads:

'You cannot use any Shutterstock image as part of a trademark, service mark, or logo.'

You might be able to get away with modifying the selected image so it doesn't resemble the original image in its entirety.

Hi pipes, as far as i know every stock image site has such restrictions, so you should work a lot to change those images, so that they could be used for logos.

    Hi pipes,

A very important rule of every serious business is to hire a professional graphic designer to make the image of the company or product, they understand all the perception concepts to make the best of it, it's not just about the software tools or the nice drawings. Please don't even buy a generic cheap logo, it will hurt your business.

    Good luck :)

Yeah i remember contacting some people on flickr a few years ago asking to use their photos on a photo gallery site that i had at the time, i always asked to prevent any problems, this was if they had not already declared that they could be used with the creative commens license, some would agree and others would refuse but obviously it was the right thing to do.

Im just testing an idea at the moment so apart from the domain itself the rest is expected to be temorary, after that the web design, logo, backend etc will be done properly.
