Hi i have a question i cannot seem to find the answer for if i setup a sitemap for my site with 1000s of urls in it can this get me de indexed for spamming the search engines. So for instance if i have a search engine site map with 5,000 search term links in it will this be considered spamming. Apreciate your advice and if you could show me a link to the rules on sitemaps anywere.
As far as I understand, search engines "like" you more if you have a sitemap, compared to those websites that don't. I think the rules are generally link to every page of your site that is public (so admin for example is not needed)
Probably not. 1000 URLs of a page isn't spamming if there all different, if you have 1000 URLS of the same page perhaps, but what are the chances of that?
In your case it might be true, since you don’t really have a conventional site so to speak. Also why would google or any other search engine would want to list pages that just contain search results? It seems as a bad user experience to send a person who is searching for some thing to a different search engine. If and when I do come across such pages, I am usually quite pissed with google.
I don't think there would be any problem in doing so.... the concept is similar to that of having a directory site which linkout at thousands of different sites though they have a separate section for each page not at sitemap. Generally sitemap helps bots to spider the site's internal page but in your case you are letting them to spider other pages.
Google won't ban you, but they will sandbox you considering that you're spamming. I had same problem some time ago. I've added 3 sitemaps with 50.000 links each and I dropped from first page on the 30 in just 3 days. This lasted 2 months . Now, I'm back
i dont think that a sitemap may be a reason for banning. there must be another reason for banning like applying black seo
I find that if you have a couple thousand links in a sitemap you should find a more organized way to create your sitemap. I have it so I have a main sitemap and than for each letter/cat. which really cuts down on the sitemaps size. It takes longer for search engines but it seems to work for me.
