Can a site hosted from a cable modem rank well?

Is there any reason why a site hosted from a Cox cable modem shouldn't be able to rank well? Site uptime is not a problem. I wonder if the SE's take a disliking to those IP blocks.

I've been working on a friend's site for 6 months - and the same techniques that work great on other sites don't do squat for his. I'm kind of scraping the bottom of the barrel trying to figure out the problem.

It is a bad idea, as the site will not be scalable if it does take off. Might just be the saturation of the market they are in.

I'm not sure if you're referring to SEO issues or unrelated bandwidth issues. I'm trying to discuss the SEO issues.

If the response time from his server is bad, the Google bot might assume his server is to busy, and not crawl his site fully, or at all. So yes, it's possible this could have a negative effect.

    Both actually, nullbit explained well.

A small shared hosting account would take one variable out of the mix. My theory is to take control of as many variables in SEO possible, leave nothing to chance.

    Good luck...

I host over 30 sites from a cable modem on a business class RoadRunner account. Where I live they have a virtual office package

    Level 1: 2m down, 384k up @ $70
    Level 2: 2m down, 512k up @ $100
    Level 3: 2m down, 768k up @ $140

About two months ago I upgraded from from 1 to 2. I host off Windows server, same IP for all sites useing host header info to direct traffic. I'm doing anywhere from 2,000 - 3,000 visitors a day, around10K page views (not counting bots - that about quadruples it). Not sure what bandwith I'm using. I turned off logging to save on overhead and use DB solution for traffic stats.

Single processor athalon 2500 with 2m Web Server
Dual processor Pentium Zeon 2.4 with 2m as my DB server

In all honestly, I don't rank for squat in Google for MOST (not all) of my sites, but I do pretty good in MSN and Yahoo. In defense, all of my sites are less than 8 months old except for 1 of them, and that one does get Google traffic, though they are coming in for granular terms and not competetive ones.

2 of the sites in my signature are commercially hosted and the other 2 are from my own box. Can you tell which ones?
