Ok so I have a car dealership. The XML map only gets partially crawled, and my inventory pages hardly ever get crawled. I was wondering if I could have 2 xml maps.....one for the Top level pages, and the other for new and used inventory. Also would google crawl both of these?
Do they in separate subdirectories maybe and submit a sitemap for each subdirectory? I don;t see an issue with that.
Yes you can have more than 1 sitemap because Google limits a sitemap to 50 K urls (50000). But in terms of having 2 different sitemaps for different niches i doubt it will affect you getting any "special" treatment for those niches. it might even slow down the process because Google will have to crawl 2 sitemaps instead of one making your URLS take longer to appear in the SERPs.
There's no reason for having multiple sitemaps unless you have an extremely large amount of pages. A reason your sub-pages aren't getting indexed/cached might have to do with duplicate content, in-bound links (from your site) or the over all structure/link flow on your site.
No Subdirectories.....I see this all the time in Webmaster tools. Lets say 100 urls are submitted throught my XML site map but only about 50% are being crawled/indexed. And there are no errors! so what gives?
