put some content onthe site, add it to webmaster tools and wait - there are obviously easy way to quicken the proccess. but you do not need backlinks

 

Yes it can but the process would be very slow. So its the advice increase backlinks. Add your website in social bookmarking websites. Dnt forget to add your website in digg, facebook, stumbleupon.

backlinks and google index are two different things, you can get indexed by google by submitting your sitemap as others mentioned, use google webmaster tool
