Can a redirct from a .com.au to a .com rank in both regions search engines?

    If i have a site www.domain.com and i get backlinks to it,
    then i use my other www.domain.com.au and redirect it to the original .com and get backlinks for the .com.au address

    can i get them both to rank in there region specific search engines?

    it doesn't mean so much more the domain

    a .co.uk could get no.1 spot for one keyword searched by an american
