I have an idea for a niche that could work. I would set up a MMORPG auction site, and let people sell there ingame items for ingame currency. No real money involved. I would put up adsense of course, or some sponsors for revenue. Heres my debate, can a niche be considered too small? I can advertise to different servers and everything, but the total player base I don't believe is over 50,000 across the boards. Would this still be worth persuing?
I've seen this type of "game" type RPG forum before and it was quite successful. Even though the niche may be small, it has great potential, you can get people hooked on these easily This idea sounds original, maybe that's why you think it might be a small niche. However, that means its less competitive, so you have a chance there! (entering large niches just means you have more competition). If you truely love the project (and it's more of a hobby thing rather than monetizing the site) then I would say go for it
yeah, i agree it has great potential, and really, theres no competition for what i'll have to offer. Think I'll give it a shot .
A niche is never too small to try out - especially if you have an actual business plan and you're passionate.
The first site I ever built, long before I had ever heard the term "keyword", is in a tiny niche and does much better than you would expect from looking at it from a keyword standpoint. In other words, I think the Wordtracker/overture tools are not especially accurate for small niches.
