Can a new website be put in the Sandbox?

If not, how old does a website have to be before it can be put in the Sandbox?

in my opinion a page can be sandboxed, but it takes a lot to get that done :)

if you got some good backlinks or even a pr from at least 2 i got no page ever sandboxed, yet. even when hitting a couple of hundred backlinks per day that got count through google.

some say sandboxing can be reached quickly, but my past showed that it never happened, yet.
for anew page, though it can happen really fast. i mean no bl, no pr and no seo. then i would say get your tools out and build castles in the box for a while :)

"New Sites = Poor Results in Google" the term "sandbox" came about. Later on, guest author SEO Guy posted an entry here using that title The Sandbox Effect, which helped make its name.Garrett French, who was writing at WebProNews wrote an excellent, early recap of all the coverage and named it Google "SandBox Effect" Revealed.
A site is sandboxed when it is new and does not rank for keyword phrases that are not incredibly competitive (such as a unique company name) in Google after making the page "search engine friendly" and after being indexed.
Some are mistaken that a sandboxed site is a site that has not been indexed by Google. That is wrong. Sandboxed sites are very much so indexed by Google, but have a hard time ranking for keyword phrases, no matter how competitive they are.

I'd heard that a new site was usually put into the sandbox for between 2 weeks and 6 months while google evaluates it - i thought it is just another way google likes to keep us guessing!

The thing i have learnt is that when people say that they can get you to the top of google very quickly it only seems to apply to niche areas which don't have many sites about them yet. If you are in a popular area it could be near impossible. L

so, is the sandbox like a "trust penalty" or something? Google adds a negative weighting against any new site and this weighting slowly goes down over time?

Is this a universal phenomenon in that it aplies to all sites, or just a few? I've had sites that indexed immediately to Pg 1 and others that have been live for months in similar terms but still only just reached the top 100.

This seems likely to me but i don't have the experience to advise. There seems to be so many different opinons re SEO and google - it just seems like they want to keep us guessing. I hope some more experienced members will offer advice?

You have to do quite a lot to get Google to sandbox you. Just keep your methods white hat and you'll do fine!
