Can a hyperlinked IMG w/alt tag count or compare as a backlink?

    Curious ....

    For Google, if another website links to our sites via an image that is hyperlinked, is it in the league of valuable backlink if the ALT tags have vocabulary or keywords pertinent to our sites?

    It counts as a backlink (alt tag is similar to anchor text) but not as juicy as normal anchor text links.

    Also just like anchor text links, sometimes sites will add the nofollow attribute to image links.

    It is a link, an image link in this case, so it is a backlink. Its beter if it also has ALT and TITLE tags describing its metadata when it links back to you.
