can a directory increase page rank faster in google?

    Hello,
If I build a directory to let others post their links on this directory, can It be increasing PR faster than a normal website?

Also, is it better to increase PR if we link from higher PR sites, rather than new sites?

    Thanks.

PR increases when sites link to you, not when you link to sites... ;)
Also a link from a high PR site is worth a lot more than from a new site with no, or very little PR.
    Bye :)

Directory is just a website, so there is no faster way to increase toolbar PR. But google PR is changing every day. ;)

And yes, for PR it is better to link from high PR sites, for better SERP it is also important site relevancy.

To run a directory, you'd better try to persuade the webmasters link back to you.

Yep the more high PR links you get pointing to your directory, the more chance you have of getting a high PR, I have just started my 1st directory today and I am going to see if I can get it ranking on google for directorycontest.com/.

You just need content, good content, Excellent content to get good page rank. How you get is some thing you need to plan.

If hight PR sites link to you, your site PR will increase.

    Thanks

I agree apples. I'd shoot for a relevant lower PR page over a non-relevant high PR page simply due to the good traffic from the relvant site.

Vanessa Fox talks about links this way too...

    Thanks for your responses.
If I have high pr sites link to me, then my site should get high pr. Does high pr sites need to be content related? ex, my site is about travel, then, does high pr sites need to be travel related (air, vacation, etc), or it does not matter?

One more question, if a high pr site (Ex: domain.com, pr7) links to my site, but its link page that links my site on (domain.com/dir/travel/) has pr0, does this affect anything?

    Thanks.

Depends on the PR and the amount of websites linked to you

a good website along with a reciprocal directory will definetely help your cause because you exchange links with relevant sites in your field and so it helps your rankings and popularity
