Can a CD be repaired?

I have a CD that is perfect on the bottom side, not a scratch, but the top has WinXP etched into it, bad enough that you can see it from the bottom. Is there some kind of fix or is it shot?

I don't think you can repair it if it's in the top.

I was figuring that since all the data is on the bottom I might have had a chance. Oh well.

you can somewhat recover it man. i have had success with the cd recovering thinggy i own. there are some nice whacky ways like using a toothpaste to recover CD's and they work as well.

However what you are describing looks like a lost case already , sorry :(

Try copying the cd. Sometimes that works.

What actually happens when you put the CD in the computer? If you go into My Computer (or whatever you use) does it at least give you the CD title/logo?

I believe all the data is actually etched into the foil piece of film on the top of the disc, not into the actual plastic.

    So technically, you are screwed.

    Sorry.

Try covering the etching with paint or nail polish, but I think it is shot.

Throw it in the microwave and watch the funky light show!! (This will completely
