How well it will rank will depend on the links pointing at it, both internally and externally, the variety of linking text, and where those links are coming from.
yes you can.. by submititng category page in various sbm and directories.. could drive good traffic to specific category..
Like Dodger said. You will need backlinks to that CERTAIN category, instead of your entire main site.
