Hey I am quite surprised at the presidential candidates in america. I mean most nations use the majority race for their presidents, so for the american presidential candidacy, it really stands out. So the question is since black is the minority in america, can obama treat the whites just as he treats the blacks in decision making, policy making etc? I am quite concerned as what happens in US will affect the world.
Can a man treat women fairly? Can a Christian treat non-Christians fairly? Can a white man treat non-whites fairly? Nobody is representative of all other groups. There is nothing unique about Obama being black that we do not experience with every leader. People are all different and we expect them all to treat us fairly. What is it you think he is going to do anyway that concerns you?
I personally don't think we'll have a problem in this area. I think he would be called out on it so fast it would make his head swim if he ever even thought about doing something irrational or unjust based on race.
Not sure who you were referring to...the OP? But, the answer is yes. As far as racism goes, this one was pretty mild.
This is the most white supremacist topic I've ever seen in the digitalpoint politics & religion section. This guy is either a member of the KKK, United Klans of America, Neo Nazis, Aryan Nation, Aryan Brotherhood, skinheads, Sons of the Confederacy, or New Hitler Youth, or about to be. I wonder how much of the US population thinks like this? Let alone, by any strict definition, the Democratic candidate is as much so-called white as so-called black. Then, there is the implication a so-called black is not American or Americans are all so-called non-black. So, in this bigot's mind, calling someone black is calling them un-American or not a U. S. citizen or not worthy of the rights of other Americans but certainly with the obligations to die in its wars and pay its taxes. Very interesting.
Of course a black can be as fair as anyone... but will Obama? Obama did complain that the courts didn't go far enough to redistribute wealth to african-americans.
Only the ignorant treat people differently based on race. Obama is far from ignorant. However, I can't say the same about you.
I can't wait till whites are the minority, so that a) they can stop being whining pusses, and b) they can stop being blamed. And yes that may be a racist comment, I am racist against white people.
He'd be called out because he is about 99% white by my count. His mom was white. His daddy left him, then killed himself. Obama was raised by his white mom and white grandparents. I think his opinion or treatment of any race is the least of the worlds problems.
Yeah, I agree. Personally, although I am white, I have no problem having a black or Hispanic for president ... as long as they are qualified (which IMO Obama is not). On a slightly different note, Obama is actually not half black. Obama is 50% Caucasian from his mother's side and 43.75% Arabic and 6.25% African Negro from his father's side, a great-great grandparent. Not that it matters -- just interesting. Mark
Sure. We have a lot of different shades of Americans, the skin color is not an issue. I don't like the "black" candidate in this case for a host of other reasons, but I've had those same issues with the white guys his party nominated for about as long as I can remember too. If he happens to win, the fact that we finally elected someone besides a white guy will be a step forward for us in respect to racial equality, but I don't see it as a reason to vote for or against a candidate. Frankly I'll be thrilled when we get to a fully colorblind status. Racial divisiveness is energy better spent elsewhere.
I'm still waiting for the explanation what is a "black" and how they are different from "Americans" that you have to ask the question of this thread?
I am not racist. This is not an issue about black or white but minority and majority. If you look at the population in america, the majority is white. If you don't find it odd, how about a chinese president in Indonesia or a white president in africa. There are always culture differences among race and this brings up a point. Presidency is a very holistic job and more than just capabilities to perform a specific task. A lot of things that president do is not about tough specific jobs that only specialists can do but simple things. This is where the human side comes in. It is not like choosing a computer where obama has core 2 duo and mc cain has core 2 duo too and most likely the country will run.
