Can a big company realy come after me for this?

If I have a URL that contains a trademarked resort name but the site contents have nothing to do with the resort, can they legally tell me to take the site down and/or fight to take over ownership of the URL?

    EXAMPLE
XXXXDestinationWeddings.com (XXXX represents the trademarked resort name)

Thank you very much guys. I am new to this and you have all been very helpful. Can't wait until I can get to the point where I can give back to the community!

It depends on the exact trademark you are talking about. A trademark holder can sue you for any domain they think is infringing upon their mark - whether or not they will win in court is another story. The cost of defending a lawsuit is huge, so that should be considered.

Tell them you did not realise the problem, but would sell it to them if they are bothered by it.

Put a cost to it, not over the top, but think of the time and money they will save by just buying it.

    Good Luck..

Big company's can do whatever they like, because they have the money to sue people, even if they are in the wrong.
