Can a bad past on a domain name hurt me now?

Hello all. Newbie webmaster. In the past i've only ever put up a few small wallpaper sites for fun. Those sites always indexed pretty quickly.

After doing some research on how the web works I would like to start a small e-commerce website. I bought a domain without a background check. It's been about a month and a half and still not indexed in google. Awstats says that google bot has been there several times, but still not indexed.

I have not done a lot of linking yet as the site is new. I have a few dir, social bookmark, and a few ezine article links out there. That's stuff I did before to get my wallpaper sites indexed. My new site is not done, but it does have several pages of appropriate content.

Could the history of this domain name hurt me if the site was banned previously? This is unknown. If so, how do I find out?

The quick background check I did just recently doesn't show any indexed pages in google for the last couple of years. Should I look at switching to another domain or give it more time?

    Any thoughts are appreciated.

    Thanks

    Bobby

I checked there after I had bought the domain. I it only shows 2 pages being indexed back in Feb and April of 2007.

Don't know if there is something there that I'm missing. Of course I could just be impatient and paranoid.

    Thanks tho

    Bobby

Are you sure that you've carried out all of the usual best practices for getting the search engines to index your site?

    • Compiling and submitting sitemaps
    • building backlinks from relevant and reputable sites
    • checking and amending / updating content
    • Validating html
    • adding the site to your Digital Point Signature :D

If you've done all this, sit back and wait or better still, keep updating and adding to your content and keep developing more backlinks

If Google attaches a penalty to a domain for previous misdemeanours then over time that will disappear, just give it time. My advice is to keep building backlinks and updating content regularly. The problem with the indexing could simply be that because there has been little activity on the domain previously Google bots have not been checking by so frequently. Also upload a site map into google webmaster tools as this may help get pages indexed more quickly

Sitemap has been uploaded for a almost a week. Webmaster tools says that pages of my site are included in G's index. The page rank bar i'm using still shows grey being unranked.

Suppose I'll sit on it for a bit yet, but since i've only had the domain for a couple of months i'm not too attached to it. Maybe i'll secure another one and put some content on that one as well as a backup.

    Thanks everyone

You have keyword stuffed the hell out of your sites ..imo
You may want to do a little research on "on site optimization".
Title tag usage should be carefully considered. Far too many repeated keywords. I would cut down on this. 1 time is all it takes for the G to get the message.

    The sites look nice....

    my 2 cents

Yes, if a domain name is banned, it will not be listed in googles index. Create a google webmaster tools account and in the left column you will see a link called "submit for reconsideration."

How do you tell if your site has been banned? Just do a search for the exact domain name. Once you have a few backlinks, it only takes about 24 hours and your site will be listed with google. I have even seen sites indexed before a single link was posted.

Submit your site for reconsideration, provide as much information as possible, such as when you bought the domain name and what you think happened.

It takes a while for site to get indexed, and you may do well to focus on building content - while the big wheel decides to index your site. Also submit your site map to other search engines, Yahoo Bing being leaders!

    Thx

Its really depends on many factors like some bad links still pointing to your site will attract sandbox penalty.
