Can 1 page rank well?

If you buy a domain and put up a single page, well SEO'd, and point many anchored links to it, would you think it is possible to rank well? Using a keyword with about 1,500,000 results.

Have you ever seen such a case? If you have, could you share the URL with me?

    Thanks

    Good question.

I'm not really sure, but would like to know as well.

I have a one-pager that does "ok," I'm looking for it to do better...

    Of course it's possible.

I had an argument about this the other day.

So long as you have enough links pointing to it, just about anything can rank #1.

Yes one page can do fine.
But why not build more pages and expand your keywords out a bit?

    Makes sense.

I guess I was always under the impression that you "need" more pages
to rank better... old school?? or out to lunch??

    I know - out to lunch :)

    Thanks all for confirming,
    Mike
