Cable TV Reception Problem--Anyone Know the Cause?

Intermittently, the picture on our cable tv channels breaks up into pixels, the screen goes then goes blank, and the sound disappears. Then the picture and sound return, and the cycle starts over again. This has been going on for several weeks.

As I mentioned, the disruption is intermittent, so when the "cable guy" comes out to check the problem, everything is working fine (of course).

take a video recording of it while it happens and when you call them out, show them the video, it could be that a microwave dish is out of alignment or moves in the wind, not all cable tv is send via cable sometimes they use a microwave to jump over rivers. some also get the feeds from satellites and if it happens on just a few channels then they are usually channels that are using the spare low power transmitter on the satellite.

Cable TV runs on current. So when there is abnormally high/low current from the backend, the TV is probably not able to read it & corrupts the data.

    Lucky me, I got DTH.

An excellent suggestion, samantha pia. When I read it, I smacked my forehead and muttered "why didn't I think of that?"

the video doesnt matter, it is a connection problem from the wire that isnt sending the data fast enough. if the coupling gets loose or rain or snow or who knows it causes problems. the cable guys knows about it, as he deals with it about 500 times a day but they are too lazy to get on the ladder and climb up the pole to change it. that is why they come and go and make believe like nothing is wrong. after i called them 4 times the guy went up and changed it and everything fine since

I should have mentioned that I live in a high-rise condo, so I don't know whether there's an exterior pole. Nevertheless, tmoneys, your explanation of the root cause of the problem still makes sense. Thanks.
