I'm thinking about getting a site with a .ca domain, what are the chances that it will be taken away because I"m from the USA?
You have to be a Canadian resident to register a .ca, CIRA requires it. A UK address isn't going to help.
CIRA can ask you to send proof of your Canadian residence so probably not a good idea to register it.
There are a few ways you can register a .ca domain. One is being a Canadian Citizen. Another is to have your company registered for business in Canada or by having a Canadian partner. Another thing you can do is to initially take the .ca name and then when people go to your website forward it to the .com, .net, .org, .biz, .us or .info domain. Eventually you would be able to drop the .ca name if you had to. -Fractal
CIRA is big on location confirmation, I doubt any non-Canadian could easily take posession of a .ca in the first place without a partner on Canadian soil.
Here's a link to CIRA's presence requirment doc. There are a few instances in which you could register the domain without actually being a Canadian citizen. Keep in mind you will have to have some sort of "Canadian connection" to do it though. http://www.cira.ca/en/documents/q3/...entsForRegistrants-EffectiveDateJune52003.pdf -Fractal
