i am wondering whether there is a way to circumvent the "canadian presence" requirement for registering a .ca domain name.

currently i am looking for a canadian person to register the domain for me:

is there another way to do this?
    anyone has tried and successful?

Yeah, you seriously won't have fun with it.

There's a whole sign-up process you have to go through on a separate site when you register .ca and it takes about 10 minutes and is SUPER annoying. Then whenever you do anything like change nameservers you have to go back to that other site and stuff.

I hate registering .ca domains for that reason.

From what I remember reading, the only non-Canadian that can register for a .ca domain name is the Queen of England. I don't believe the priviledge extends to anyone else.

However, the loophole is that if you have a registered company in Canada or a patent registered there, you can sign up for a .ca even if you are not in Canada provided the domain name is used for the company or the patent purpose.

yes, i have read that too eddy. i doubt the Queen will ever use her privilege though.

some companies provide a service to have a canadian presence (they have their own lawyer). but they charge $150/year which makes this not an option for me. too expensive :D
