I'd say go with whatever you feel most comfortable with and base it on any experience of programming that you already have.

I'm from a VB background so I feel most comfortable with VB.net, but I don't find the syntax differences between VB.net and C#.net that difficult to deal with.

In the case of jobs, I'd say that C# was probably more frequently requested than VB but some of this is still a reaction to the days when C++ users considered VB an inferior language - particularly as VB was always designed to be a rapid development platform. The differences between VB.net and C#.net aren't that huge and one language doesn't have massive benefits over the other for Windows apps, but if employment was the concern C# will probably be better - but try to get to grips with VB at the same time because it will not be completely foreign to you if you learn C#.

hmm thanks for the advice, btw i went for my first introductory class of .NET and found that both Vb and C# are almost same, d diff is the one who has learned c will get C# easily and the one who is comfortable with Vb will get VB.NET easily but my Prof say if u understand 1 u can switch to another easily.

For now i mam going for C#

c# is the one to go for. VB6 was very widely used but the take of VB.Net has been less marked. When faced with questions like this, one idea is to look at job ads on internet recruitment sites to see which languages have greater numbr of ads and salaries.

Definitely C#, it's easier IMO and more popular than VB.NET.

I prefer C# to VB.Net.... (VC++.Net can be an alternative)
