    Hello everybody,

    I started running my site for all testing purposes on a free host. Now I feel like it's time to get a real paid host. I'm new to all this hosting stuff so I don't really know what CPU specifications are actually good. This is the CPU on which they claim to be running my website. Can anybody please have a look and tell me if it's good enough? Like, I want a site that doesn't lag and goes fast.

    SERVER TYPE 1

    * Quad-Core Intel® Xeon® processor 7300 series
    * 4 GB RAM at 1066 MT/secondº speed
    * Fast RAID hard disk sub-system
    * 3 SONNET rings to multiple carriers including MCI, Global Crossing, and Time Warner Cable.

    SERVER TYPE 2

    * Dual Quad-Core Intel® Xeon® Processor 5000 series
    * 4 GB RAM at 1066 MT/secondº speed
    * Fast RAID hard disk sub-system
    * 3 SONNET rings to multiple carriers including MCI, Global Crossing, and Time Warner Cable.

    P.S.- I'll be running Vbulletin on the server.

    Thanks

    What kind of content are you hosting on these servers? Is it just a forum? Are you able to provide some rough stats?

    Ok, you can run vbulletin on this servers absolutely , no problem. But if vbulletin grows more and more, then you have to upgrade server.

    @marko
    Thanks!

    @photon
    I'll be putting up no more than 10-12 hacks and the site will be for around 2000 users.(Not all active)

    Doesn't matter what the server hardware is really, a quad core will do as long as the provider won't bog it up and put measures towards making sure it is a fair access policy.

    These servers are pretty low on RAM - I wouldn't put together a shared hosting server with less than 16GB of ram. Also, I'd like to know more about their "fast RAID disk subsystem" with the number of drives, type of raid (hardware/software), and the amount of memory on the RAID controller (if hardware).

    CPU power is rarely the issue but dual quads with good disks and RAM are usually better than 1. Newer series quad-core Xeons would be preferable.

    Thanks for your replies. I went for MDD hosting and I'm quite happy with their speeds.

    4 GB of ram on a server is not low by any standard for a shared hosting server. Most of the hosting providers out there probably run less than 4 gigs. When I had my hosting company all of our servers ran 4 gigs on the shared servers and it was fine with hundreds of sites on it.
