Thanks to those of you who bought express reviews! For those of you who bought a express review of your website and did not get approved, I refunded your money since the directory is still new. However in the future we will not being doing this. Please keep the submissions coming, its the weekend and we have time to review your site!

 

to the OP: I am not hijacking your thread but i do feel it's important to answer the question.

Master Directory, you can own whatever you want...but when it comes to "using" it on a situation/event/website on a theme related to the original thing, you may face issues related to copyright issues. Trademark is something that needs to be applied for to the government (USA), once a trademark is granted, you own it for that particular category. Let's say...my directory has a trademark, if you use a confusingly similar name and make it a directory, you're in trademark violation. Howeve, if you use the same name to open a breadshop, you'll be fine unless we are talking about an extremely famous brand like Coca Cola or Mac Donalds.

In other words, you cant register a shoe store with the name Mac Donalds in it nor can you open a pastry shop with the name Mac Donalds. Because the only thing the word, the feel etc "Mac Donalds" is associated with is what the company stands for (something unique and specific).

The site was reported to BOTW! I was trying to tell the owner of the site (for the best reasons) that he should think twice before promoting a domain like that but he didnt seem to care...

 

IMO, it was a very sleezy business model. Obviously the OP would rely on people who thought they were submitting to BOTW. Looks like justice may have been served here...

might not be much name calling if you guys would leave it alone, and do not come to conclusions about things you have no clue about. I was not trying to confuse the two. In fact BWOTW was free, and not paid like BOTW. Anyone who has a "CLUE" knew the difference. People just wanted to make a big deal about it, simply because they could, and like drama. The site was taken down for reasons I am not saying on a public forum. Just put it this way, I am do not regret making BWOTW, and would do it again if I could. I am starting a new directory and I hope you will consider it for your websites.

Oh, I see. If I didn't criticise you you would not have called me names. . .

The reality is that you came to a board made up of mostly directory owners to promote your site that is very closely named to one of the oldest and most respected directories out there. Maybe you can do it legally. Here, it is a moral issue. Directory owners will look out for one another and don't take kindly to people who *appear* to be infringing on someone else's rights.

Also, lots of veteran members here *will* post their opinion on new websites, good or bad, to help newbies who don't know better. So the reality is that if you promote your site here, be ready to respond to criticism.

No directory is there when i hit your link! seems the domain is pending renewal at godaddy!
