There should be no need for "retraining" when you go from one category to another. The rules should be consistent across all categories - learn them once and apply them consistently - problem solved.
Minstrel this so easy to answer that I can't help but suspect that maybe you're just playing around. There is no need for "retraining" when you go from one category to another. Rather than retraining, we retain what we've already learned and just add to it as we edit in more and more categories. I've never had to retrain to edit in any additional categories, rather understanding the differences has become an asset. If I come across a good site that was missubmitted, rather than moving it someplace closer, I have the option of listing it where it belongs.
I read that thread, not sure why you pointed me there but I see a question you asked that went unanswered. Maybe you want an answer? I didn't answer you in that thread because we don't have a Real Estate category in Shopping. Real Estate would go in Regional or Business.
Of course, if an editor visits your site and finds that it provides good content, your site will indeed be listed. But... how do you get an editor to visit your website? MmmmmMmmMmmmm... $$$?
In the same way you get anyone to visit your website and linger a while. Editors are as likely to pick it up from Google, other link pages, newspapers, TV, anywhere you might pick up an URL that interests you enough to open it in your browser and have a look. You could try that but the overwhelmingly likely result is a permanent ban on your site and any others you are associated with. Your risk.
Right now, I am looking out from the window, watching 5 DMOZ editors running after a bus to write down the URL on the side of the bus, in order to list it in DMOZ.
That'll never happen... not even close! A diligent, website-seeking DMOZ editor is seen as often as a unicorn.
The overwhelming majority of these are accepted from the unreviewed queues. Website-seeking editors are still a rare sight. I'd like to know how many people recently got their sites listed without submitting. Listed out of the blue. I'd like to know.
You obviously haven't spent much time around poodles (which is to your credit) - those yappy little things run on adrenaline supplemented by energy drinks.
Rough guess it's about 50-50 I reckon based on observation. In my last 12 months as an editor I would estimate my own rate was about 90% from other sources, 10% from unreviewed.
