    Hi All,

    What are the processes and things I need to do in order to buy a site of someone to avoid been scammed. I'm sure the process is not without its pitfalls, but what are the things I need to do and to lookout for?

    I'm a complete newbie to buying sites and what have you so treat me that way in your answers if possible. Thanks for your time in advance.

    What kind of a site are you looking for? An established site should have good traffic and be earning some money (they should have proof of this) however, buying a site like this will usually cost a lot of money. The other thing you can do is buy a new site that has been designed well and has the potential good money.

    I know he owns the sites for sure, but I want to know the processes going into the sites changing hands, ie; logins and other technical stuff. Also, what should I be looking out for so that he doesn't take my money and run or to make sure he can't access the sites once I get them...

    I do not have much experience with this part, but once you have the site you can change the username and password to log into it. Where are you buying the site from? If it is on a site like Flippa then you can view his profile and report him if anything goes wrong.

    Dont pay them until you have the domain pushed. Then pay and get the files. If the seller doesnt deliver you can always start a paypal dispute process, although this is lengthy and sucks. Just check the whois and make sure the guy seems legit, you should be ok :) Of all the sites I have bought < 1% have had problems.

    You can also do a 50/50 payout through Paypal. Buyer pays half now, seller transfers site, Buyer pays remaining half. This has worked out very well for me.

    Good stuff guys it's all greatly appreciated. The way I'm looking at it is that I'll having the domain pushed, then use the paypal 50/50 in order to get the files before full payment. Don't mind if it takes a little while seems this will be the first time I've done this. After that I'll have needed to prepare some hosting for them, correct?
