Buying traffic to build your opt-in

Am in the process of creating a new site that specialized in building a LARGE opt-in list for diffrent catagories. Basicly what I want to do is buy traffic from adwords for keywords such as "how to beat poker" the traffic would go to a page from my blog that explain to them a few things about poker but in order for them to continue and learn the trick. They would have to signup for the newsletter to get the password to continue. I then put them on the "gambling" list and send them mails everyweek on gambling. Do you thinkts think my ROI for this would be good or bad? I won't make profit rightaway but might with the opt-in but is there potential in this?

If you are able o build list with least cost means building a list at cost lower than reputed list builders do, then it may be best ROI you can get. Even if it is at the rate of list builders offer you I think it works out to be better ROI if you build up a relation with your list.

    Hope that helps

Try to post to related forums with a link to your landing page in your signature. This is one of the best ways to build the list for free.

However, if you want a responsive list, you should build trust with your subscribers by providing them with "what they want".

My question is what is your business model...how are you getting revenue from your list? AdWords can be very expensive traffic in competitive markets (and if you don't know what you are doing you will lose money on trial and error). Next, it costs you a certain amount of time and money to send messages to your list. Third, if your emails are annoying or do not offer the opters value, then they can easily unsubscribe or just not open your mail. It's more complicated than just if you build it, they will come, and stay, and buy etc. Your actual ROI depends on your strategy, execution and your market's behaviour...which is awfully difficult to predict.

Good insight and I agreed. It just one of those things you don't think of, how much work is going to be involved in maintaining the list. Have to find another solution, probably go with that the other poster said, try and build your list for free.
