I've tried buying traffic and it will bring in new people, but it will rely heavily on whether or not you have something to entice them to stay. Otherwise, the traffic will be short-lived. Also, if you've done something good like DigitalPoint has done, it is almost a certainty that your competition will better their product to compete with you. It's a tough game. So when you start buying traffic, monitor the usage. Determine what is causing people to leave. Watch your competition. Buying traffic can certainly work, but you must use it wisely.

It really is to broad of a topic. Depends 'from where', 'when', etc.

Look at the above scam, would you give money for links from that site?

You would be better off to find your own links verses getting ripped off by a link farm scam.

Look at this search from Google, click on these links and do some research and come back with your judgement for this forum.

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&q=buy+page+rank+links&btnG=Google+Search

Do your homework before you give anyone a dime.

Find other webmasters with good sites, many articles and threads have mentioned that recip. links are dead.

Quality relevant links are the only ones you exchange with, just linking to be linking can get you burned.

do you mean buying links or buying traffic?

if traffic, I'm not sure what the options there are?

be aware you can also buy fake hits to your site (to boost alexa rankings [not sure why you would bother]) but careful you don't buy auto generated 'fake traffic'

if you are talking about adwords - yes it works but watch the cost per lead / cost per sale with a unique entrance page and google's tracking thing. only buy on topic adwords, I tried a few non comepditive seasonal high traffic phrases and got low click throughs.

    which site are you promoting?

Yes I've heard the banter too. And it's probably the biggest load of bollox I've seen perpetuated for quite some time.

That said, it's a good idea to be fully informed about the parties you're linking to, and to ensure your linking practices are properly aligned with your campaign objectives. As anthonycea said, relevance is very important - whether it's now, or in the future as Google evolves.

My view is simple. Whatever your audience wants, give them links to it. LOTS of links to it. And don't be afraid to ask for one back. Links are the currency of the net. Google and others are built around them. So too are millions of sites around the globe. :)

So you have heard that reciprocal links are dead also?

I think that those that wrote those things ment that just having 25,000 reciprocal links with whoever or whatever was not advisable.

What if 20% are dead links that the webmaster never checks or removes?

What if 20% are link farm links?

Are those good links? Could your site lose rank for linking to link farms?

often times these can hurt your branding and rarely convert to sales for most people.

marketing hype from a person trying to make sales

they were saying the power of reciprocal links is deminished a good bit.

if you link out to 4,000 link farms your site will likely swiftly be removed from the search index. i do not think it is strictly percentage or number of bad links, but I think it is probably somewhat of a combination of the two.

DMOZ links into a bunch of garbage (as well as many many good sites), but they also have tons of sites linking into them...

We have a large network of sites that send us traffic, we are providing real unique visitors to your website, absolutely NO SPAM is used to obtain this traffic. We also use some abandoned domain names that are still getting a lot of traffic to them and are targeted to the item you are selling or promoting.

When talking about buying traffic in bulk from brokers I'm always very suspicious. It begs the question that if it's any good, (i.e can produce more revenue than they're selling it for) then why don't they just send it to somwhere where it can make money for them?

No need to be suspicious about buying traffic.
I would think 80-90% of the so called traffic packages offered
are nothing but pageviews generated via auto surf programmes.

I know, I run 12 auto surf programmes myself,
generating 2-3 million auto page views a day. Many of my customers
use my services to enable their Fantastic Traffic Packages.

This whole issue about buying traffic can be very confusing to a beginner. A person can really get scam with fake traffic, so you really have to research and get opinions from persons who actually use "traffic buying" to find out about the best source of traffic to buy,

If you're buying traffic, stick to reliable and proven methods. Adwords for example is about as reliable a source of paid traffic. Then, as mentioned above, ensure your site is well monetised - you need to have an opt in option, useful content (if relevant) and a selection of revenue options.

Do not buy generic traffic! It will be a bot visiting your web site for 1 second. You will see zero conversions. When buying traffic, you want advertising, not just "hits". 99% of those buy traffic sites will send proxy hits so they look legit but then you'll see that they leave right away and they are completely fake. What's the point?

ONLY 100% real targeted traffic interested in your products or services works, wouldn't you rather have 10 people come to your site and buy something then 1 million come and not buy anything.
