Buying Stumbles?

Has anyone here tried advertising with StumbleUpon? They say it starts at about .o5 per, which is average, but I have mixed feelings about the traffic. It seems like organic stumbles come in batches of fifty or so, which is nice, but because people are surfing, they don't seem to linger long.
I'd like to know if buying Stumbles is worth it for the viral effect...does it give enough boost to the organic listings that can make up for the autosurf nature of the visits?

Really, I hadn't heard they were bought yet. Cool

I've been considering signing up myself.

Do you think it will just be a fad or stick around for a while?

Just try with $10 or $15 as trial :D If it does not work you will just lose that small money.

    I don't think it's worth it.
Their users just surf for fun.

It's okay traffic, but not that targeted. However, if the surfers like your site and 'stumble' it, you can get more hits from the referral traffic.

It's best for sites that are unique or nichey. If your selling ringtones, skip it.

Every now and then I throw in $15 or so on it, but it's more for branding my site than for actually getting sales.

Why would you pay $0.05 per visitor, when you can go to the freebie section on DP, trade with 50 stumblers, and get 1000 free visitors? :D

Because the Advertising part works a little differently than regular stumbling, and it's also instant traffic without the work of actually having to "stumble".

You can choose which category your site falls into, so stumblers only wanting to check out "shopping" sites, can cruise through just "shopping" sites.

Yes, but advertisers don't even have to have the toolbar or even have a SU account, just an advertising account.

Sometimes it's just easier to pay than to work for it.

Well, that leaves it pretty well where we started. Thanks everyone for your input. As far as trading stumbles, is there a better way to streamline the process? Coming back and checking the thread seems really tedious...almost thinking of setting up a page for it.
I'd like to hear more from people who've bought stumbles, and also the viral effect...I know people can get bookmarks from friend profiles, but what about groups?
Most of my Stumbles seem to come from the "Unknown" category, although I bookmarked it in "Paranormal."
Has anyone figured out how to track and cultivate this traffic, other than exchanges? And what would be an easier way to organize exchanges?

Doesn't charging for advertising kind of skew that notion that Stumbled sites are user voted?

I don't believe so...because fundamentally, what you are paying for is the exposure. One stumble is pretty worthless for it's own sake...it can even be detrimental, since you could be paying for a thumbs-down.
The user is still rating the sponsored sites, and if no one gives a thumbs up, the process ends there.
In theory, all good things ought to spread virally without any input from the creator...but even enthusiastic fans are lazy.
BTW...came across gangclick.com in another thread and am trying it...seems to be a clearinghouse for promo exchange. DP members may like.

Yes I couldn't agree more with this comment.Get good turnover but they move on quickly - at first I thought there was some fraudulent activities going on it was so different to my normal traffic.
