so if a domain expires and pool.com or godaddy get it in their auction would it be worth getting if:

    1) ranking for keywords in google
    2) google still has cache copies of pages...

I guess just have to create the pages again and enjoy rankings??

Anyone tried? Some domains with traffic are about 600 USD so would like to know before paying about that :)

some people make living off buying expired domains. you just need to know which ones to buy. not sure which domain you are looking at but 600 dollar for an expired domain is not cheap. you are talking about enjoying the ranking but keep in mind that most expired domains lose their ranking within 3-6 months and in most cases they lose PR in one or two PR update. i wouldn't bet on enjoying the ranking and traffic for long. if you think you can make the money back in less than 3 months, then you might give it a try

you can buy a domain for few dollars and spend $600 on SEO which will bring you traffic and protect your investment years to come. just food for thought

well... auction ended and adrenaline affected me and kept bidding ! :( not sure if domain was worth it lol

domain expired in April and aquired in May
domain has most pages still indexed in google.
    domain ranks for keywords.

    What happens if:

    1) I lauch the exact same site and have private registration?

-- Google could think owner recovered domain and reuploaded site?

    Anyone try?

People say that Google knows when the registration changes hands and they discount the old links, so the ability to maintain the ranking may be limited. However the previous author may have had some good articles written that were ranking on the strength of the content, and you could salvage some of that ranking by putting that content back on that domain. Beware that this is illegal as your purchase of the domain does not include any of the content that the previous owner wrote. But for black hatters, there is a lot you do with expired domains. Some will make the site look like it did before, but insert links to other sites they own to help those sites rank.
