if the .com you really want is taken, but every other extention is available, is it ok to buy a .org domain? i mean i know it's allowed, but is it frowned upon?

Most of the time I try and stick to mostly . com's but in a time of need you might just have to settle for that .net or .org!

I would go for it. If the word(s) preceeding the .org are the best representation/keyword for your type of site, why not? It will rank as well as a .com or .net or any other extension for that matter.

You can always find someone who will say "if it's not .com, I wouldn't do it" but that's just an opinion. I have a .ws site that is very successful. I bought it because the keyword(s) were so powerful and was the only extension it was not taken in. I promoted it the same way I would any other extension and it's paid off well.

    Good luck!

I think you are better off with .us extension at this point.

I would rather have a .info than a .org personally.

I am wondering about that. If there really is an extension which would still be good if the .com is not available.
