Buying new domain name to target more specific keyword

Crossposted with thread "Importance of domain name in SEO" since I think this question is worth getting its own thread.

Lets say I have a domain called allcarinformations.com and that after a couple months/years I decide to target the specific keyword "Car Deals" which is probably really competitive. Could I buy the domain name cardeals.com (lets say it would be available) and redirect the url to my original domain allcarinformation.com?

Is there any chance that the new domain name cardeals.com get ranked higher that my original domain for the keyword "Car Deals"? Or would the content of both of my site be seen as duplicate content and penalize both of my site?

Why? Even if you register the domain name and redirect it over how will it bring traffic? Unless it's a domain name that gets type-in traffic or already contains backlinks it will serve little to no SEO purpose and be a waste of money.

It might help if you add an additional page to your website and name it car-deals.html and get it optimize for that keyword or simply change the name of an existing page. That would save you the hassle of having to get a new domain name and save you a lot of time.

My point is that I thought that if you want to get a high rank for a particular keyword ("car deals" for example) it helps if your domain has those keywords inside (like "cardeals.com" for example).

So if your domain is carinformations.com you could buy the domain cardeals.com and redirect it... What do you think?

URLs with keywords can be as effective as domain name with keywords. In any case link text on incoming links will outweigh domain/ URL name if you get decent quality links.
