Buying links... does Google really care?

    Hi,

does Google scan directories and know which ones are paying and which ones not?

For example, if you buy a Sponsored spot in any given directory, will Google know that you bought that spot? Does the bot scan for keywords such as "Sponsored", "Gold Member", "Premium" in the header of the box where your link is located and penalize you if it finds any of those words?

again we want solid proof with your answer, don't just answer from your gut feeling, you will just create more confusion ;)

    Cheers

    Interesting thread..

I guess If we will purchase a backlink from same niche i think Google will not come to know about link purchase..;) But if we will purchase a backlink from strong pr 6 pr 7, not on the same niche, Google will definitely come to know.. Just a Guess not sure..;)

Just don't let google knows that you're buying links. For example, in link sales forum, url of the site can't be reveal to public and it must be inform only by private message.

If buying of links is resorted to, once in a while, google would not mind it. After all, little bit of advertising is always required to gain visibility.

But if the same is done in excess, I am sure google will take a hard look at your efforts.

It is no secret that sites pay for links: in fact, any site that does not pay for links is probably not serious about their SEO. When Google based their algorithm on the number of links a site has, they made a market for links. It is the way it is.

Google have said they don't like paid links, so I'm guessing they do care.

I've heard a lot of reports about the PR of a site selling links dropping dramatically, so I'd say they do.

It is a real danger for DPians. That is the reason I do not reply if someone ask links through email directly:eek:

I have always wondered the same thing. How does google know that a site is selling links. Just because a site mentioned the word "sponsored links" means that it is selling links?

I'd try and avoid paying for links; unless its a very hidden way. Otherwise you risk getting penalized.

Google understand about it and this is no problem if buying link not for manipulation PR. You can check this issue at Google webmaster guide.
