I was wondering if anyones knows if CJ allows you to buy something using your own CJ aff link? I was thinking of buying web Hosting, and using my aff link. Is that allowed?
I have a similar question; I checked all my bans stores today for maintenance, and I clicked on a products because one of my stores is about something that really interests me. Then later today I signed up at ebay and bought an ebook about something completely different (first time I ever buys at ebay), not related to any of my stores at all. I did not think it all through because I realize now I have bought through my own affiliate - the cookie I got earlier today.. :\ Will I get any problems for this? What should I do to avoid any trouble - send CJ an email and explain everything?
There's no problem generally. I think some web hosting companies may have terms stating that you can't, but generally there's no issue.
Lots of topics about this before and the answer is.... Yes, it's ok to do it but just don't over do it to earn profit
Are you sure lol?? Cuz I use CJ more than any other affiliate service and I don't want to jeopardize my account.
See how long that program sets cookies for. If its say 7 days, click your link on day 1, then buy the product on day 2 or another day. If anything bad comes of it, say you were testing the link and decided to buy the product the next day
I have read they changed the terms for US atleast last year, ebay store owners can direct their customers to their own cj affiliate links so surely you can buy your own stuff.
I was wondering the same thing myself today. Thanks to the OP for starting this thread, and thanks to all for their helpful posts.
I would say it is probably not a problem. However if you make substantial money from CJ, I wouldn't risk it.
Be patient ... Some do not allow you to do this ! You'd better mail them and ask whether it's possible or not !!!
Clearing cookies clearly has no effect, since you're then setting a cookie and an IP that CJ can check.
Ok so I emailed CJ and heres what they said: "Thank you for your inquiry. As a publisher you are allowed to click through your own links in order to verify if they are in working order. According to the Publisher Service Agreement (1.d.ii). "You may or may not be compensated for Transactions where You or Your agent are the Visitor. Multiple Leads from the same individual, entity or IP address may be considered non-bona fide Transactions. You shall not earn Payouts for non-bona fide Transactions." While this is a little confusing, ultimately it is up to the advertisers discretion as to whether or not to honor a transaction coming from your IP address. Most advertisers, however, are fine with this as long as an inordinate amount of traffic is not coming through. Thank you for your patience and please let us know if we can be of any further assistance. Sincerely, Commission Junction Client Support" So basically we can buy from our own aff links as long as the advertiser approves it.
It also depends on if you're making a purchase/sale or buying something/lead! Some advertisers gladly take the sale but others might not be as happy if you're generating your own leads by simple signups!
