Buying Expired Domains.

Hi, I have a few questions about buying expired domains.

Is it a good idea to buy expired domain than register a new one?

What are the advantage/disadvantage of buying an expired domains?

ADV: maybe already has pagerank / traffic.

traffic definately will make you some cash, depends on how much traffic is generated from an expired domain.

 

There are several topics regarding this issue with pros and cons.

Traffic will make some cash but don't expect their actual pagerank or search engine indexing/backlinks last beyond a couple of weeks after they were dropped.

 

Some types of backlinks sometimes last for long, PR usually does not last

 

I've had no luck trying to buy expired domains. If it is any good, there is lots of competition and you have to be prepared to bid at auction and pay a lot.
I say, build your own brand.

 

If they are truly expired, they would have been dropped and considered as new domains.

I guess if you buy them, they need to have some residual traffic otherwise it is better to save the money and get a new one domain name.

However, some domain names may be meaningful and may be worth a bundle. People try to get them in auction before they are gone. If you do not have deep pockets, it probably is not the right game for you.

 

How do you find expired Domain names with pagerank?

 

google will kill their pagerank after they drop.

 

You can leverage on the existing traffic to build your own. Both sites should sell similar products and have similar content to benefit from conversions and PR boost.

 

I bought an expired cigarette shop domain listed in yahoo directory.

I put some affiliate links up and it still gets a lttle bit of free traffic, but I also was being confussed with the previous owner and got a warning letter from the west virginia attorney general about cigarette shipping regulations.

God only knows who the previous owner was or what they were doing.

So, register your own domain name (and don't ship cigs across state lines.)

The advantage is that you can get domain names with backlinks already attached to them as well as possibly having a brand for your site. Those are two of many advantages that buying an expired domain name gives

 

depends on what you want to do. .

start a new website -> new domain

make money off typein traffic -> expired domain

 

The question about an advantage to buy expired domains is similar to the question about the advantage to recycle iron or other metals, there would be not enough suitable brand new domain names for everyone, for example the quantity of one word domain names is limited by the number of known words, thus in the future it would be very hard to find suitable domain name which has not been already registered at least once.

 

I think it is good if your bought domain already has some traffic - its easier to promote your website and get popularity. Because it is free traffic without any promotion and stuff. but it will wanish if you do not create in empty place.

 

unless you develop it quickly into something very similar to what it was before
