Hi guys, I have been reading about buying expired domains for a while now..but im a little confused. EXAMPLE: If I see a domain that has 500 google backlinks - then do you just assume its getting tons of traffic? is there anyway to find out? What do most people do after you find a good expired domain? just put up a parked page? Has anyone here really profited from doing this? and how? I have been in SEO for 5 years, but never ventured into this area..thanks!
good luck finding one with 500 google backlinks, yahoo backlinks sure... the domain resellers park the domains and they find out how much traffic the domain is getting (of course the ones that get alot of traffic are not sold cheap) just because they have gotten alot of traffic now is no guarantee that the traffic will continue though people do anything that they would do with any domain, park them, develop them, sell them, etc...
The only expired names that I buy are names that are quality names that can be resold for a profit because it's a decent name, but these days, can't seem to find any decent ones that are available, all picked up by the dropcatchers I don't go for crap names that just have backlinks but are somthing like zewresa.com, that's just a waste of money IMO
The age deflation factor placed on the domain and its links, coupled with a brandable name are the reasons I sometimes buy up expired domains. Picked up one a couple months ago for an emerging niche - sold it a few weeks later for $7,500 with minimal SEO attention. In this case, the age of the domain and the few links it had made it much more viable for immediate SEO action. Grabbing domains because they have traffic and parking them - that's something I still don't understand the value of.
Placing on such domain satelite sites is a good idea, because that allow you to save some money and time.
I'm not going to specify the domain as it's an area of trend-spotting that I don't need any more competition for. I can tell you that it is related to publishing supplementary information for online gaming - that's all your getting
