Buying expired domain names or buying competing websites.

So I am looking for various ways to push people towards buying my product. I've tried google adwords, but it was dismal results. The price is too high for the conversions I get. I need the traffic. So instead of buying ads I would rather buy competing websites who rank well in google and have all the decent backlinks to them.

I can either wait till their domain name expires or I can make a buy out offer to them. Most of these people are not trying to make money off their site. Its just something they made on the side which has become very popular. I want to buy the site so I can put google adsense on the site and funnel the traffic to my main site.

Anyone have any advice in these fields?

I was figuring waiting for the domain to expire to see if they renew it, if they don't, then I'll buy the domain name. These sites are small so I don't think I would have any problem buying the name the second it hits the market.

However, some sites have their domain names registered for like 3+ years so the only thing I can do is offer to buy out the site.

If the sites have traffic and cater to your target market, then make them an offer and buy them out. You could be waiting forever for those domains to expire. Also, the domains will serve you better with content already on them with their already established steady flow of traffic. Once they expire the traffic could drop to zero rather quickly.

Better to purchase the site(s), maintain them, and feed your main site the traffic

How can you buy their domain if they keep renewing every year?

Best buy out your competitors if you can afford it. That way you can be on your way ASAP instead of waiting and waiting and .............
