Hi All, I've been looking at a few of my competitors links and have noticed something that I have not come across before. Website: http://www.handtec.co.uk/ Ranking quite well for a few search terms and a lot of their links that show up are as follows; http://www.htchd2.co.uk http://www.tomtom-start.com http://www.tomtom-start.co.uk Now if you follow those URL's (which are keyword rich for the main website) they basically take you to the hompeage of the main site... What are they doing? Are they buying old domains and just pointing the URL at their main site (it's not a redirect is it?)? What effect does this have on SEO / Is it something I should consider? Many thanks, Tom
it would be a waste to keep buying domains only to get a backlinks form them. you not only buy domains, you also develop the site with content cause you cant just have a blank p[age with your link on it. better option would be to setup mini sites on free hosted web 2.o sites like blogger, wordpress, hubpages, squidoo, etc that are already hing PR and have good authority with google. backlinks from these sites will have more weight than a new one or 2 page site that doesn't have any backlinks of its own and has no PR.
I do not think the process of buying domains just to point to your homepage is a very good long term strategy. You may notice a short term pop in rankings from them, but I believe over time their value begins to decrease.
Never buy empty domains and direct to your main page. One empty page directing to main page is useless. Try to get blogs.
