I am in Real Estate. I watched a video with Wil Reynolds and he was saying that buying directory links was still a good strategy. I have already done my research on real estate directories but I was curious as to what you guys would recommend I do? What Directories do you recommend using or not using? Yahoo Directory? Business.com Joe Ant? Best of the Web? Gimpsy? What would your strategy be if you were having trouble gaining links and was stagnant in your ranking?
you can try to submit to free directories first, here is a list of real estate directory, http://www.directoryrate.com/real-estate-directory-list.php?sort=p
Free directories are good (not all of them, of course). I submit to them often. Those that die, die. Those that live on and grow provide a nice backlink. But when I submitted to some paid directories with good PR a few years back, that's when my traffic began to increase substantially.
You can always try to find out which sites/directories link to your competitors (there are a number of software packages available which will do this for you) & then sign up your own site to them as well!
The directories you listed would be a great start. I guess you have already submitted to dmoz? The bulk of free directories are free for a reason - the link is worthless. Reading the directories forum here would leave you to beleive otherwise, but that is becauase most of the guys on there are plugging directories and have an agenda. Don't expect too much traffic from them, but they will halp your rank and serps.
directories arent as effective as before. they are a waste of money because they dont hold as much weight as relevant links.
Directory specially the free one are good for new sites and not that effective for established sites.
HI Free and paid directories are good even if free ones have a PR 0 you never know they may get a good pr in the future..... just make sure not to submit your site to directories filled with casinos or pharmacy websites. Thanks Tom
The big directories are always a good idea, as they ususally have higher pagerank and relevance. Then go for some of the lower PR directories, but not to many, as it will probably get your site deindexed.
Just my opinion, but you're right. Google has devalued most paid directories and most of them are setup so that reciprocal links point back to the index file so subpages pass little or no authority anyway. I will say that back in 2003-2004 I spent over $2K on directory submissions and today I have absolutely nothing to show for it. Even the ones that are still around are basicly worthless links.
I would start with the free ones. There are tools that speed up the process. Just be careful about some of the directories. Maybe you could get into a bad neighborhood.
Yeah go for the free ones first. Once your site is slowly on a roll, then maybe you can consider the paid directories!
no way. All it does do is may give some little to no benefit. Back links from lower page rank directories will never make your site de-indexed from search engines. If that is the way, every website owner will invest in submitting their competitor's site to low page rank directories or sites
If you look at the backlinks of some sites, you will see they only have links from directories but the sites still have PR 2 or 3. Directory links might be less valuable but they do still count for something. Don't spend money if you can help it though, there are lots of free directories.
