Buying Backlinks? Help for Newbie

I see in my Google webmaster tools that they are asking webmasters to rat each other for buying link backs. Yes I see people here say work on your back links.

Google says they have algorithms to detect this activity though

I saw a Google ads selling back links, kind of ironic. LOL I saw it here. Site looks impressive. I think they are a regular here. But they say 3 links per forum.. Seems like Google could pick up on that fast.

I've read about link baiting, programming or extensions are great for that but without those skills it seems pretty difficult to get back links unless you do reciprocals and from what I've read that is next to useless.

So I could buy hosting from several subnets and link to my sites, wow big deal 3 links. I would thing 1000's are needed.

It seems like buying links is the worst thing to do. But tell me where my thinking is wrong. It seems back links are hard to do.

    Thanks for the help.

Add value to your website use social bookmarking to get people know about your website, then your site will automatically gain backlinks.
    OR
Go at DP's bst forum, there are lot of people selling links silently.

We are going onto the social train right now. Direct your funds from buying links to promote your service and meet more leads instead.

Buying links should be the last thing to do unless you are a broker and earns commission for doing this. I would rather use the funds to come up with something useful for my visitors (be it an online tool, a service, or some freebies)

Buying links are ok from my experience. Getting links from related sites helps a lot. Just stay away from the link farms thats all.

I have never personally bought backlinks; there are plenty of ways to get the same quality backlinks without spending any money.

If you prefer not to work for your links or are just trying to get that little bit extra to increase your rankings, then buying links may be for you. If you go to Google and search for 'seocontest2008', the guys who holds the #1 spot bought links from TextLinkAds (this wasn't all he did, of course).

The main reason I don't buy links is because even though I don't fully believe Google can track down every single site that does this, there's still something that rubs me the wrong way about it. Plus, I provide SEO services, and I don't think my customers would like it if I were buying links for their site. Also, there's always the money issue, so once you run out of funds you lose the links.

In my personal experience, directories were never as helpful as getting mentioned in blogs and articles. Focus your efforts on getting mentioned

There really is no faster way of getting listed then optimizing then buying backlinks. There's a difference between just jumping in a buying from everyone or known backlink sites.. (or providers who put 200-300 blogs on 1 ip and use the same text)... and going out searching for the right service and asking how they do it. We've had sites launched on a brand new domain be on the first page within a week for some of our targeted keywords.

There are plenty of ways to get links other than buying them. Do some research.

Rivers, that's what I'm doing right now. :) Research. If Ii didn't know there were potential dangers that would be an indication that I haven't done some research. :) Heck I've done lots of research, but I've forgotten more than I remember.

Okay I found someone that you pay them $300 and your links stay forever, well as long as the forums are up.
Google says clearly they use back links as a vote for your webpage but yes, they need to come from similar type websites.

My site is ranked high now but I'm looking for the sandbox any day now. :) Three links on the front page is not bad for a site 1 month old. But I smell a sandbox coming. I've been working more on writing about my content in a natural fashion.

I don't know how good my key words are though. That's' for another post though.

Thanks all for your input. I read it closely and now I'm going to read it again.

Okay, that sounds good. Can you tell me more?

Do you mean try to write an article and submit it to Ezine's for their use? Are there ezines where they automatically do this? If so, where? This is new to me.

I had a huge press release site where anyone could post press releases, I'm thinking Google my shy away from that. But I can't find that link. Maybe I can find it on Google, anyone want to help me find those type of places or are they a waste of time?
