I have been buying and selling domain names using ebay for about 7 months. I can honestly say that you really have to research the market to find good domain names. It took me about 2 months of trail and error before I got a good rating. I used a great vendor to get my names for $10 a name and then turned around and put them on the auction. I would get maybe one or two buyers a week. The thing that was hard is the fees that ebay puts on to sellers. You have to pay about $5 for every domain name you list and when I was going through the training they never really mentioned that. I found that I have lots of domain names that are just sitting in an account because I was not making any money just breaking even. So Although I have a list and some customers and a good rating, I have lots of inventory and no more money to put into it. So I went on to something else. I am finding that with internet marketing, one has to stick to one thing at a time. In July I discovered a company that is helping me sell a self improvment product while, I myself am going through the program. It is a 100 day system and there is lots of support but it is definalty not cheap. One has to spend much more than $40 to make this work. I listen to my mentors all the time on the phone and through webinars. The thing that I have learned with doing this program is that I can not give up and if it was a brick and mortor business it would have been a much bigger investment. I have tried many different programs in the last 11 months when I made a decision to do this full time. Most programs that are being sold for $40 are saying the same thing, it is just a different name and a different millionaire spending the money trying to get people to watch their videos. Everything costs money every month because Upsells is how they make there money. I have learned that Domain Names are very important and that being very specific really helps. Knowing your market and finding out what people are buying and who they are. Are they middle aged women or younger men in their twenties. All the little details matter no matter what the niche is. One product is key but it is very hard to stay on one thing. Hopefully the people that have brought the same products I have, are having success. My effort is still in process and I am not giving up and that is one of the best things that have come from this experience so far. Stick with one thing and get help from others that are doing the same thing. Good luck to all the small business people like I am that are trying to make money and not giving up. Karen
I was making fake chicken eggs in a little shop in Zhuanzhou and making up to $8/day, until I realized that it's all stacked in favor of big corporations... Just kidding. Great post - even though, I wouldn't touch a lot of stuff you are doing with a ten-foot pole, because it's a lot of effort and a small possibility of a pay-off. Of course, if you stick to something for a while, you'd be good at it, but will you make enough money? Ask yourself: how many units of whatever you are selling would you need to sell in order to make a decent wage? Would you be able to sell that many units in 6 months? In 1 year? If the (honest) answer is: "probably not", don't waste your time. Btw, about fake eggs (really freaked me out): http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/08/world/asia/08food.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0
A friend of mine uses ebay to advertise his site. What he does is he lists it and then asks $3000 for it (obviously no one is going to buy it for that price), but people come to see his listing and thus checking out his site.
Hi Karen, Thanks for sharing! You seem to have learned a lot on this endeavor and you stand to learn more. I have to agree with Yasha78 though: you cannot earn much through this. However, you have acquired skills that can help you earn more on the side, while running the same business. I wish you all the best! Have a good day!
Have you tried listing the domains here on DP. There is a section in the Marketplace for Domains. It's free to list. Now I do not know what kind of domains you have just sitting in your account but you can certainly try.
yeah, ebay is also one of those mediums where you can sell your sites or even domain names, a lot of person are making decent money from them
Ebay is a place that you can find almost anything to buy and sell relevant to your niche. It good to find something that works and stick with it
