Buying an expired domain name?

Hello, if I were to buy an expired domain name that has say, a PR of 4... To get better SEO results, would I do one of the following:

    1. Put an anchor link on it with my site name; or

    2. Forward it to my domain name; or

    3. Simply transfer everything on mine domain over to that domain name then forward my original domain name to the new one? (Of course, my domain is less then 4 PR.)

    Thanks!

If the domain has been expired for some time Google will devalue it and you will gain little from this approach. This used to work great a couple of years ago. I bought a PR5 back then and 301'd it to my PR2 site. The PR2 site went to PR4 in a matter of months and enjoyed hundreds of forwarded back links. Recently, I tried it again and all the links were devalued. It seems as though Google catches on to the switch after the original site goes off line.
