buying an email list - how to not be a spammer?

Discussion in 'General Marketing' started by djc225, May 2, 2011.

I see dozens of email list brokers out there, some clearly more reputable than others (infousa comes to mind)....my question is that even if i buy email lists from the most reputable brokers how can I mass mail the list without being a spammer?

Can I simply hand a list over to an email service and have them do the mailing? I dont want to get blacklisted, end up in everyones spam folder, or create a generally negative public perception of my brand.

    Any suggestions

Buying email addresses is always a little bit risky since people need to opt-in again. (AWeber)

I wouldn't recommend buying a list. Instead have a opt-in box on your website so that the emails that you send out won't be considered as spam.

don't buy lists or you WILL become a spammer. use only lists that you have personally collected and preferably double opt-in.

It's easy not to spam a list but I don't recommened buying one, each list is different, some are resposive while others are dead.

Do you think that purchasing "solo ads spot" could be a good alternative?

You will most likely be blacklisted because people will get so confused as to how did you start emailing them without their permission.

I wouldn't recommend you buy a list as well. It is a big risk.

How would you feel if your email was sold as part of a list to some random online marketer? Suddenly you're receiving tons of useless emails that clog up your inbox etc etc...

Basically, be sure that the email list you may buy contains people that are relevant to what you have to offer and only if its ENTIRELY relevant. If this is the case, sending to thousands of people isn't an issue though you should always try and put yourself in the shoes of the recipitant. I wouldn't recommend sending out frequent emails to the entire list either and always offer an opt-out for them in one form or another.
