Buying aged domains... it it worth it?

I've a few queries regarding buying an old domain to avoid sandboxing. I would greatly appreciate any info/opinions.

I'm thinking of buying one for a new site.

    - Is it important for the domain to have a holding page or actual site on it and to be indexed in g?

    - or is there value to be had from a domain being that old?

    - Would you recommend any sites for buying them?

    - Any tips/advice/opinions in general on doing this?

    Thanks,
    Zak

Well, if you are looking to start a fresh site, you better try to register a fresh domain. Try to put value on something what you buy yourself rather than paying for something that is already once established and down subsequently, and have been placed for sale. BTW, an ideal place to find aged domains at cheap price is Godaddy and more often, you will get them for pennies. Good Luck!

I've heard that aged domains lost their 'age benefit' when they are sold and the site is changed - also the owner is changed (whois)..
So the only point of buying aged domains is to continue the site as it was..

aged domain is good if they maintained well , survived PR update cycle, and never got some troubles like sandbox before, try marketplaces like godaddy or sedo, lots of options there
