Buying a website?

I'm thinking about buying a website that already brings in revenue, from flippa eventually. However, I am very very inexperienced and don't really even have basic knowledge right now (barely even know about clickbank, adsense, etc). I was wondering if anyone knew any good books that can increase my knowledge about this topic before I spend my money.

A good book, I don't. Your question is quite general....

When buying a website you should make sure you know where the sales are coming from. Keywords, hot items, social netowrking (word of mouth), the current owner is an industry expert, etc and make sure you can duplicate. FOr example I once looked at a dropship e-commerce. The numbers were good, the price was on the low side of fair, and it was ranking for some good keywords. But what I eventually figured out was that the owner was also selling a pretty pricey consultation service through it and done some extensive marketing related to this service. Two problems, I wouldn't be able to duplicate the consultation service as it was all heavly branded around the owner, and the clients probably would've just stayed with the owner

You should also, have a plan for it, and try to understand why the owner is selling. Obviously, if it is a real easy money making site (like most people claim), they wouldn't be selling it. I like to do a SWOT analysis and try to form my plan from that.

make sure you check the google analytics, and do an seo and traffic analysis.

I'd suggest building a couple sites and monetizing them to learn what you'll need to know to make a good buy.
Most of the sites for sale are junk.

You want to know your ROI (return on investment) and potential ROI and also how many hours you will have to put in per year (divide by return to get your rate)
